More about Susan
Shropshire Councillor for Severn Valley, the most northerly of our divisions in South Shropshire, Susan sits on the General Appeals Panel, Housing Appeal Panel , People Overview and Scrutiny Committee and is appointed to Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin Fire Authority. All roles that have kept her very busy since election in May 2025.
Susan is passionate about politics and is also CWO Deputy National Chairman, An active campaigner and enthusiastic mentor to women in her region and wider party, Susan spent her early career as a senior manager in retail for 20 years and then 10 years in local government where her business experience led her into a role as a specialist in business skills gaps - these increasingly were in the fields of Science Technology Engineering and Maths commonly referred to as STEM. There was a noticeable dearth of girls and women in these careers due in part to a lack of role models. Susan attended an event in Parliament designed to attract more women to stand for elected office and she realised that many of the reasons women didn’t come forward to stand were similar to those that held women back in STEM careers and proceeded to immerse herself in the process of encouraging women to stand. She believes that we get a better democracy when our government reflects the make up of the population which is 51% female, currently only a third of MPs are female. She decided to develop the skills and experience to get onto the parliamentary candidates list which she did in 2024.
Susan served as CWO Region Chair in the West Midlands for 3 years before becoming a national deputy chair in 2023 and is now President of CWO West Midlands. She is leading on the newly launched CWO mentoring programme which 60 women have applied to join. A number of former MPs and senior members of the Party have volunteered their time to mentor women to enable them to develop the skills and confidence to stand for election as MPs and Councillors.
This promises to be a very enjoyable evening spent with likeminded friends and family.
Non members most welcome to attend.
